You might be an academic, lawyer, health care worker, or counsellor. You want to change people’s lives and live a meaningful, balanced life. You give a lot, but you’re also trying to find time to look after YOU.
You think work-life balance might exist, and you want to find it.
You know you “should” do self-care but it just feels like yet another thing you can’t find time for.
Or maybe you find the time… but
So, what GIVES?!
Fact is… the way we’ve been taught self-care is all wrong!
What you need is a new way to approach self-care and a community of like-minded people to help you get there.
Self-care… that means eating vegetables and finally finding time for the gym right?
Not necessarily!
Self-care doesn’t mean doing a long list of activities someone else told you to do.
Your self-care needs to be tailored to YOU.
It means finding time to do whatever helps you replenish your personal and professional self.
It means figuring out what works for YOU and your life.
And we promise we won’t tell you to eat more vegetables – unless you want to!
We’re Jorden and Jess. We’re clinical psychologists working in academia (Jorden) and private practice (Jess).
For years we’ve researched self-care practices for academics & health professionals. Now we’re leaving the lab and bringing it to you. We want to help you look after yourself, love
We’re not going to tell you what to do. We won’t even say the words “sleep hygiene.”
We’ll help you figure out how YOU want to look after you (even if you decide you want to learn about sleep hygiene). We know there is no one-size-fits-all approach to self-care, and research supports that!
Our favourite thing about this work is when clients realize that they’ve been sold a false bill of goods: You don’t have to sacrifice your well-being to be successful. We want you to realize this too.
We focus on concrete actions, even when you don’t “feel like” doing self-care. We don’t rely on motivation and we certainly won’t make you feel bad if self-care is hard.
We’ll help you connect with other people who also value self-care, and who know that self-care and success are both possible.
Learn from us and say goodbye to the overwhelm. Say no thanks to the culture that tells you exhaustion is a sign of success. Say hello again to joy, purpose, and feeling energized for the important work you do.
